Employment in Spain
Spanish Employment.
If you work in Spain, the taxation system is identical to the PAYE system in the United Kingdom. Your pay would already include deductions for income tax and social security (National Insurance).
You will be referred to as an "Autonomo" if you are self-employed. Expenses for professional activities can be deducted from your worldwide earned income, and the net result is charged. Autonomo comes in a variety of forms. If you are a self-employed consultant, such as an IT consultant, or if you work in a field such as accounting, law, or dentistry, we recommend that you seek professional advice before starting your business.
The Beckham Law is an especially advantageous taxation scheme designed to enable people to come to Spain and work. On a salary of up to 600,000€ per year, it lowers tax on your won, worldwide profits to 24 percent. Furthermore, wages and capital gains earned outside of Spain are not charged in Spain. The arrangement is in effect for a total of five tax years. To be qualified to participate, you must meet the following requirements:
In the last ten years, you have not been a tax resident in Spain.
Getting a work contract that is linked to Spain.
You and your immediate family are only allowed to own less than 25% of the company in which you work.
Within six months of entering the Spanish social security system, you must apply.
If you are relocating to Spain and meet these criteria, we strongly advise you to contact us because the tax savings can be substantial.
If you work in Spain and perform duties outside of the region, these activities are tax-free up to 60,000€ in earnings per year. The amount deducted is equal to the amount of time spent working outside of Spain. For example, if your taxable salary is €100,000 a year and you spend 25% of your time outside of Spain, your taxable salary is only €75,000.
